Joe Washam was removing containers from a suspected
chemicals weapons site in Baghdad when the building ignited. It resulted in third
degree burns over 40 percent of his body. He had more than a dozen surgeries
that challenged him daily. Today, Joe is co-owner and project manager of a
disabled veteran owned small business that provides home oxygen and durable
medical equipment to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“A traumatic injury doesn’t have to ruin your life,” says
Joe. “It can provide unforeseen opportunities that pay off after the hard work
of rehab and coping is accomplished. I’m living proof of that.”
What helped Joe was an organization called Wounded Warrior
Project whose mission is to honor and empower wounded soldiers. I discovered a
way to contribute to their project through my bag of tortilla chips.
Today’s gift was to buy a bag of Mission Foods
tortilla chips. They are donating 10 cents of the purchase price of each sale
up to $250,000 from May 6, 2013—March 21, 2014 to the Wounded Warrior Project.
By purchasing this product I was able to enjoy eating chips while making a
difference in the lives of wounded service people and their families. OlĂ©—time
to go buy more chips!
In Giving,
Robin
