Like many things in life, we had the
best of intentions four years ago when we printed photos for Rob’s 60th
birthday. We had planned on delivering them, but our plans changed, work
intervened and we did not get to visit. The photos went into a box in the
closet.
The pictures were of us in the mid
and late 1980’s. Everyone looked so young. One of the photos is an early spring
bike ride, before the spring thaw. It is how “mud season” in Colorado got its
name. Our bike tires had mud caked on them so thick that at times they wouldn’t
even roll. The photo shows our clothes, face and skin being caked with mud.
After the picture was taken, we went to the car wash to spray ourselves and the
bikes. I haven’t taken a shower in one since.
Other photos show us biking in Moab,
Utah. We rode the smooth red rocks through the desert country. Camping was an
adventure in itself. We nicknamed our favorite spot after a friend of ours who
loved it very much—Camp Yarberry. In a rare event, it rained and we watched in
awe as water began to pour over the edges of the canyon and splash into pools
below. We’ll always remember the waterfalls there.
Today’s gift was to give the framed
photos to our friends. These pictures are prized possessions of who we once
were colored by who we are now. The reminiscing about the good ole’ days was
almost as good as the actual event.
In Giving,
Robin
