Human Goodness Wins

It happens when we least expect it
Or, maybe we didn’t recognize it, because it transpires bit by bit.
One day you see each other every day
Then you don’t see one another for a ten-month delay.

I am not sure why it occurs
Thinking that today will last forever, but never recurs.
Then it is gone and tomorrow is here
But those times, some good and some bad, are just old memories that I endear.

Sometimes the most trying times and toughest situations
Draw us close to each other through thoughtful conversations.
We see work friends each day
But then the closeness disappears, when one goes away.

When enough time has passed, we want to reconnect
And make sense out of the weirdness, from all of the past disconnect
That seemed to turn the world upside down
And cause, what was sometimes fun, to turn into a frown.

It happens when people aren’t aware
Of others feelings and causes disrepair.
It destroys relationships and drives out what once was good
But in the end human goodness wins, as it should.

Today’s gift was to buy lunch for a former work friend.
We shared war story memories before the descend
That brought us close together, then
Connected us once again.

In Giving,

Robin
