Sarah Hoidahl, a waitress at a Concord, N.H. restaurant, picked
up the tab for her customers’ lunch when she learned they were soldiers
affected by the federal government shutdown. She said she wanted to do
something nice for the members of the National Guard, so she paid their $30
bill.
In October, Ellen DeGeneres gave Sarah $10,000 and a 50"
TV. The single mom didn't have a working TV at the time. A few months later,
Ellen selected Sarah as one of the lucky recipients of a new car.

The
story touched millions of people on social media. Sarah did not know that
her $30 gift to military personnel would receive so much attention. It is fun
to see random acts of kindness being paid forward.
At
the local Albertsons grocery store cash register, I noticed small cards that
had $1, $3 and $5 printed on them. For today’s gift, I selected one of the
cards and handed it to the cashier to give a gift in that dollar amount to www.makingchange.org. Making Change partnered
with Albertsons during the month of February to donate money to the local food
bank. The Klamath Falls Albertsons probably won’t make it on the Ellen Show,
but they are doing a good deed by encouraging people to give to the local food
bank.
In
Giving,
Robin
