Imagine
that your entire community came together for a day to make a difference. There
is a day where that can happen—Saturday, October 26.
For more
than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light have joined together to
sponsor Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service.
Millions of volunteers around the world unite in a common mission to improve
the lives of others.
Thousands
of projects are planned each year involving corporations, communities,
nonprofit organizations, entire states and individuals. Many of the 250 HandsOn
Network affiliates lead projects across the nation.
Newman's
Own Foods, supports the day by awarding $10,000 to charities. USA WEEKEND
Magazine will feature the honorees in a special April, 2014 issue coinciding
with National Volunteer Week, led by Points of Light.
Points of Light recognize that
people have always been at the center of change. People today have more power
to drive change than ever before. At the same time, society is demanding much
more from the world of volunteerism.
To meet that need for volunteers,
organizations must be able to help people make the greatest impact possible
with not only their time, but also their talent, voice and money. As the
world’s leading volunteer organization with more than 20 years of history and a
bipartisan legacy, Points of Light connects people to their power to create
positive change and address the critical needs of our communities.
Their vision is that one day,
every person will discover their power to make a difference, creating healthy
communities in vibrant, participatory societies.
Today’s gift was to ask the
newspaper and church to join in creating a Make a Difference Day in our local
community asking each person to do something to help others and then let me
know so I can submit for the award.
In Giving,
Robin
