The Foot Bone’s Connected to the Ankle Bone

Feet have never been an attractive focal point.
They unceremoniously attach to the leg at the ankle joint.
That is until pain takes the center stage
When something causes the feet to rage.

We depend on feet to get us from here to there
And they do it without much fan fare.
All the feet ask
Is that we give them comfortable shoes for the task.

But what if one day the feet picket, with a strike
Because one of its partners has taken a dislike
To its part in the walking game.
An essential player has made the feet lame.

For the feet to do their work
The ankle must do its part and never shirk.
Its sole job is to put one foot in front of another and advance.
That is unless there is an unfortunate circumstance.

The feet ordered emergency reinforcements quickly
Before the entire body became sickly.
It seemed the only solution
Was a surgeon’s contribution.

So, the doctor did operate
On the ailing ankle so that it would cooperate
With the feet, to get back on track.
And then the feet can run around again like a maniac.

Today’s gift was writing and sending this poem to a friend who had ankle surgery. I hope this gives her a smile and she gets back on her feet again soon.

In Giving,

Robin
